BambooHR has released a Claude connector that lets customers work with their HR data from inside Claude. It is in beta and runs on the BambooHR MCP server, a connection layer between a customer’s account and outside AI tools.

BambooHR says admins can ask Claude to list and run saved reports, count employees by department, review job openings and pull recent applicants. Employees and managers can check time off balances, see who is out and submit a time off request from the same reply, according to BambooHR’s release as posted by HR Tech Feed. The release says the connector is available now in open beta at no additional charge for BambooHR customers with an active Claude account.

The BambooHR documentation adds the controls the release leaves out. An admin switches on an AI Connectors app under Settings, then Apps, and picks who may connect: admins only by default, specific access levels, or all employees. Turning the app off revokes every connection at the company at once. Write actions ask for approval in Claude, and users can switch off any tool they do not want Claude to use.

Every answer follows the permissions of the person asking. The documentation states that “Access follows your access level, not your job title” and warns that two people can ask the same question and get different numbers, and that a short or empty answer usually means nothing the user can see.

In our reading, the connector gives HR teams a reason to review access levels before anyone turns it on. A manager who cannot see time off balances in BambooHR will not see them in Claude either, and an admin with broad access gets broad answers. The documentation also advises keeping sensitive sessions scoped to BambooHR, because data can move between connected services in ways that are hard to predict. Teams weighing agents in their HR stack, such as those in our piece on SAP’s autonomous HCM vision, can start with the same audit.
