Workday and Google Cloud have expanded their strategic partnership to embed AI agents directly into the tools employees use daily. The integration, announced May 28, places Workday’s Sana Self-Service Agent inside Gemini Enterprise, creating a unified environment where HR and finance workflows execute without switching platforms.

What the Integration Delivers

The collaboration enables employees to check time-off balances, view payslips, review tax information, and access expense policies through natural language queries inside their Google workspace. Managers can review team goals, approve timesheets, and initiate performance reviews from the same interface. The system supports agent-to-agent and agent-to-UI handoffs, meaning complex requests can route between specialized agents without manual intervention.

Technical Architecture

Gemini is now the default AI model powering Sana for Workday, while zero-copy data access between Workday Data Cloud and BigQuery ensures agents can operate on live data without creating duplicate stores. “Employees can get faster, more accurate answers, streamline repetitive tasks, and ultimately focus on the work that matters most,” said Karthik Narain, Google Cloud’s Chief Product Officer. The broader push toward agentic AI in HR platforms continues to reshape how these systems deliver value to end users.
