On May 12, Workday Foundation announced an AI-focused Solopreneurship Accelerator Program in partnership with Anthropic and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). The initial cohort of 15 aspiring solopreneurs will begin in July 2026, each receiving a ,000 grant from the Workday Foundation to cover business expenses.
Participants gain access to Anthropic’s Claude AI credits at no charge, an AI skills entrepreneurship curriculum designed and delivered by LISC, and coaching through LISC’s network of Business Development Organizations. The curriculum builds AI fluency with specific focus on business operations, teaching participants to leverage generative AI for strategy, marketing, fulfillment, CRM, and financial management.
The program targets communities where solo entrepreneurship offers economic mobility but where access to AI tools and training remains limited. Solopreneurs are identified through a nomination process rather than open applications, ensuring the cohort reflects the communities LISC already serves.
For the HR technology industry, the program represents a different angle on workforce development. Rather than training employees within organizations, Workday is investing in individuals building their own businesses with AI as the productivity multiplier. The ,000 total investment is modest by corporate standards, but the model could scale if the pilot demonstrates measurable business formation outcomes.
The partnership also signals Anthropic’s interest in workforce applications beyond enterprise automation. By providing Claude credits to solo entrepreneurs, Anthropic gains real-world usage data on how non-technical business operators interact with AI tools for operational tasks, informing future product development.
